Black Liberation Playday is a free monthly Black Intergenerational Day of Play on the Southside of Chicago! Our second event will be on Saturday August 26th, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm with a theme of Historically Black and African Games featuring mancala and card games like spades. Attendees are also welcome to share games and play ideas too!
Attendance is all ages but limited to around 30 people due to space and ensuring enough food. To increase accessibility and safety for our elders and neighbors with chronic illnesses and disabilities, all events will provide and require N95/KN95 masks and indoor spaces have HEPA filters in addition to masks.
Black Liberation Playday aims to be a space that reconnects Black people of all ages to themselves and their community through games and other forms of play. We will provide access and exposure to a variety of games including TableTop Role Playing Games, Board Games, Card Games, and Play Activities.
We use various forms of games and play to foster imagination, creativity and playfulness because all three are vital parts of building our liberation and sustaining ourselves and communities through healing and liberation journeys.
This Project is part of PATHS Chicago and managed by Cassie of Intersections Center for Complex Healing PLLC and hosted at The #BreathingRoom Space thanks to The Let Us Breathe Collective and will be documented by City Vanguard Productions.
